Welcome back! Today, we’re taking a look at Hin Kong, a laid-back stretch on Koh Phangan’s west coast. If peace and simplicity are what you’re after, this spot’s for you.

Hin Kong is a small, tranquil area, likely home to under 1,000 locals—a mix of residents and expats who keep it low-key. The beach is long and shallow, perfect for sunset views from places like Hin Kong Hut. It’s got a calm, artsy vibe with yoga studios and cafes like Crave, making it ideal for a creative, peaceful lifestyle.

No big supermarkets here—Thong Sala, 10 minutes south, has Tesco Lotus and a hospital. Land is affordable, great for a relaxed home or niche rental property. This isn’t for busy tourist vibes or upscale builds—just a serene, creative corner.

Topography and Land Opportunities

Hin Kong’s mapped with a blue circle on the west coast, red circles for other communities. A 3 km radius around the beach shows:

  • White areas: Flat coastal land—easy for building small projects.
  • Green hills: Gentle inland slopes—sea views possible if slopes cooperate.
  • Blue zone: Shoreline—simple and open.

The vibe’s relaxed, with quiet roads linking Srithanu (10 minutes north) and Thong Sala (10 minutes south). Haad Rin’s 25 minutes east, and ferries to the airport are close via Thong Sala. It’s perfect for budget-friendly retreats or sunset-focused rentals, not nightlife or big amenities.

Building Regulations

Here’s the zoning breakdown:

  • Light Green Zone (10-50 meters from the beach): Max 6 meters high, 75 square meters, over 75% open space. Beach is public.
  • Yellow Zone (white flats): 40% open space—flexible for development.
  • Dark Green Zone (green hills): 60% open space, up to 12 meters if slopes allow.
  • Red Zones: Over 50% slopes—no building.

Use the Koh Phangan City Land Use Planning Map, Land Slope Controls, Ministerial Regulation No. 22, and Environmental Control Map for details. Rules can shift—double-check locally.
